This is no-doubt the VERY BEST live-action Superman film yet. Mostly because all of the other movies had at least one braindead-stupid moment. It also helps that the action is the best I've seen in ANY superhero flick thus far, having the impact and speed that we would expect from a man that can lift continents and break the speed of light.
Lots of easter eggs in this one, too. Be on the look-out!
I also love the characterization. Louis Lane is smarter than ever before due to one feat that no other incarnation has or is capable of pulling off. Jor-El is not only immensely badass, but remains a part of his son's life beyond his death (which is something previous Jor-Els certainly lacked). Supes himself is portrayed to be not as experienced or as powerful as the one from the comics, but that goes with this being a restart to the series.
Without a doubt, my favorite character is Zod, who I was expecting to be totally different than he actually is. When I saw the trailers, I was expecting Zod to be an almighty emperor, like Earth isn't the first planet he's taken over and subdued. However, like I said, he's a lot different than that or the power-hungry "KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!!" egomaniac of olde, and honestly that's for the better. He's not only more competent, but even a little sympathetic despite his limitless cruelty.
What many people have been complaining about is that this isn't the Superman we know and love. My response is: "Is that really a bad thing?" The old Superman movies were plagued with problems and goofyness, from lifting the statue of liberty by its finger to turning back time by reversing Earth's rotation. This new take is much more serious and (surprisingly) realistic. If you do your research, a lot of the technobabble in this flick actually isn't technobabble because it's being done or has already been done. DNA-based memory storage, for example.
For those of you who think Supes made the ultimate sacrifice with the final solution, remember that Krypton lives on within him (You know what I'm talking about), and the reason he got over the ***** of *** so easily is most likely because he knows it.
