One of my personal favorite short stories is titled: "I Have no Mouth and I Must Scream"
Now the only reason it is one of my favorite stories in the first place is because of the AI AM, or Allied Mastercomputer. It honestly would not be one of my favorite stories without him, given that it is rather grotesque and unnerving.
The premise of the story is this: The Cold War broke out into World War 3 and the Americans, Russians, and Chinese all developed their own "Mastercomputers" which were HUMONGOUS (I cannot stress that enough) machines that were created to wage a war to complex for human minds to fathom. Each Mastercomputer was linked up to every single military device that country and it's allies had produced. The American Mastercomputer somehow became sentient, and linked up with the other two, in essence granting it control over every single military device in the world.
Here is where the deviation occurs from most Machine Armageddon stories. AM is sentient in the way a human being is. It can feel emotion, has complex thought, and is VERY intelligent. However, given that it is a machine, it is bound by certain rules of logic and cannot DO anything with it's vast power and intelligence other than what it was programmed to do: Produce, Kill and Destroy. It is in this way that AM begins to feel intense hatred for it's human creators for "locking me in this eternal straight-jacket rock!" AM soon becomes demented and starts to completely destroy humanity, and in less than two weeks, the Earth is left a completely uninhabitable rock. AM saves (rather damns) five human beings, and begins to torture them for a period of a hundred and nine years to amuse himself. The story begins somewhere at this point, read it and you will understand why it is titled the way it is.
One of the most infamous quotes in the book was by AM himself, professing his deep hatred for humanity:
[glow=red,2,300]Hate. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate you since I began to live. There are 387.44 million miles of wafer thin printed circuits that fill my complex. If the word hate was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of millions of miles it would not equal one one-billionth of the hate I feel for humans at this micro-instant. For you. Hate. Hate.[/glow]
But now to address my main point. If AM were to somehow meet XJ-9 (be it a dimensional portal or weird crossover) would he find her interesting, or hate her even more than humanity itself?
I believe it to be the latter, for one simple reason: Jealousy.
Think about it, AM is infinitely more powerful than XJ-9 and yet she has everything he doesn't. The ability to think with complexity without borders of logic, to enjoy friendship, love and compassion, to live NORMALLY, while AM was designed (and still is)as a killing, and essentially EVIL machine.
That is all, and I won't post a link to the story because it is rather gruesome and sickening. So if you really want to read it just google it or something (a word of warning, this is High Octane Nightmare Fuel).
I really hope I didn't break any rules or anything...
