Wow, you are not pulling my leg. Do they got ownership or are working with Nick? Either way this is surprising.

It's too bad that idea was shelved, because it makes perfect sense from a business standpoint. The original show had a respectable Japanese following, and an anime reboot would have allowed them to broaden its appeal within that market. I wonder what stopped them from pursuing the project any further.

Maybe it became too raunchy, leading into PSG.
Or they were discouraged by the horrendous PPG adaptation.

A few years ago, seeing that and knowing it didn't happen would have felt like being on the receiving end of a Pai Mei Five-Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique. It really is a shame that it didn't happen since an adaption like that probably would have boosted MLaaTR's presence, even if only on the internet. Still, the PPG adaption makes it hard to decide if such an adaption would be beneficial or not. Nonetheless, I would have watched this, if only as a continuation of the legacy of the original.

Well, at least MLAATR still is a favorite amongst the many of us.
It probably would have boosted MLAATR's popularity especially among the internet. But as so, there's always the risk that it could become a flop.
As far as gaining MLAATR's popularity, one can either hope that Nick brings it back, that someone makes a really, really good fanfic of it, or that someone's own Original fiction is somehow inspired by MLAATR.
