I know some of you (Tachyon especially) might be wondering what the crap happened to me for so long. Well, here's the basic rundown.
Around the beginning of April, I had a nervous breakdown which basically erupted into a fit of self-mutilation and then slowly dragged on as a loss of interest in everything around me; this led to my withdrawing from my university for the time being and coming home a week later.
I've come home to a hell hole; everyone in my family has had at least some form of stress, most of which comes from an impending foreclosure of our house. My father is struggling to repay it, but it looks as though it might be too late. As such, I've had to look for a job, which obviously is not easy.
The bright side to this is that I've been getting some long-overdue treatment for depression; at first I've been taking some minor bipolar meds that wouldn't really qualify as depression medication, but lately the situational stress has been wracking a greater toll on me and I've begun relapsing some of my old habits. I'll need to change that.

Oh my God. I feel sorry for your situation. Look, remember you have friends here to lean on.
Keep up with the meds; they can help you deal with the stress, but really it all depends on how strong your own will is to get better.
Hard, yes... but far from impossible.

At one point, I felt similar emotions. I kept this a secret from most people around me, but managed to find something that would help better myself. meta-religion.com/World_Religions/Buddhism/basics_of_buddhist_meditation.htmIt's...rather calming. too bad I have a tendency to become occupied with other things that prevent me from doing this for fifteen minutes a day. I try, at the least.

Two words: Good music.
Get good music and you'll feel insanely better.
Also, another word: Exercise.
If you sweat, you're removing toxins in your body, and you'll ultimately feel much better, physically.
Healthy body, healthy mind. You can't just make a healthy mind right off the bat, you need to take care of the body first.
Lastly, if all else fails, at least obtain access to pencils and paper, and just write.
