Author's Note (Jessie): Okay, so it was XJ-0's idea to make a sequel. It was MY idea to include him on it. ;D Basically I wrote Jessie's part and XJ-0 wrote Zero's part (obviously XD) This is the sequel to "Unrequited", which is after Tremorton Valentine's and before Soul Crisis. Enjoy!
Author's Note (Zero): Here's a treat for you romance fans! This is an OC fic featuring MLaaTR OCs: XJ-0 and Jessie Winkler. This story is the sequel to "Unrequited". It takes place after a Tremorton Valentine's. This story was written by 1JennyFan and I.
1JennyFan did Jessie's parts, while I did Zero's parts.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did writing it!
Oh, and remember, the feelings of the characters do not reflect that of the authors.

"I just don't understand why you like me. I mean, I was getting in your way so much."
---------------------------------------------
It's early evening, and Zero is with Jessie in Tremorton.
Poor girl, so unsure of her place in this new relationship. She had told Zero of her insecurities.
Zero does love her, but a kiss can only go so far. How do two people become closer?
He knows how. He takes her hand.
"Come with me."
He pulls her to him and picks her up in his arms. Surprised, she instinctively wraps her arms around his neck. He begins to fly.
Jessie tries to go for her robonizer, but Zero stops her hand and makes eye contact with her. The look in his eyes says something to the effect of "let me hold you". She moves her hand away from it and puts it back around him.
He flies high over the city. The wind blows against Jessie, giving her chill. The height of their flight makes her feel a little vulnerable, but she's know she's safe with Zero holding her. The thought of it make her feel warm inside and she smiles.
Zero takes her near the woods of Tremorton, to an isolated hill section blocked off by growth. But Zero can get to it. The hill overlooks the city, the suburbs, and into the horizon.
He puts Jessie down next to a tree, several feet from the hill's edge. He then sits next to her.
Jessie looks outward, into the city. He took her away from it all. All of the anxiousness and pain that was in her life.
"Thank you... but I don't understand. Why did you do this?" she asks.
"So we can talk. I can talk to you and you can talk to me. You have me all to yourself,” Zero replies.
He leans back on the tree and looks on.
"I've known so many people over the last 5 years since I woke up and was 'born'. That includes several girls over the years too. I never thought of having a girlfriend, but here you are.", he says.
Zero turns his head to look at her and asks, "With so many other hero-dudes, why did you choose me?"
"Actually, I have no clue. I mean..." she starts, thinking over it, "most of the other heroes were full of themselves, at least a little bit. You were totally humble. Even when you were admired, you thought that the crowd was admiring someone else."
She glances at the boy.
"I just don't understand why you like me. I mean, I was getting in your way so much."
Zero chuckles a little and says, "There's something we have in common. How little we think of ourselves."
He adds, "You know any girl would like a superhero for a boyfriend. A bad-boy type in particular. I never liked that. I thought it was shallow, and I'm not willing to compromise like that just for a girl. Justice comes first."
He leans over and lays his head on her lap.
"But you. When you kissed me in your room, it was so genuine. I mean, all the time we had known each other. And now you just clarified it. You like and accept me for who I am. You stuck by me even in my ignorance. You weren't in my way. You were just where you needed to be," he answers.
Jessie grazes his hair with her fingers, touched. "Zero, that's too sweet," she says.
Zero caresses her face with his hand.
"You were so worried for my safety.", he says, "Knowing what I do, how can you stand to stay with me? What if something were to happen to me?"
The redhead puts her hands in her lap.
"Well, it's not like I didn't fight crime or anything before. I just didn't do it as much as you. I've just been worried that YOU would get hurt. I guess that's when I knew." Jessie shrugs, a bit flushed.
"Knew what?" asks Zero.
She glances at him, blushing more. "I knew that I loved you. I mean, to never see you again? I couldn't take it."
Zero sits up and puts his arm around her.
"Now that you mention it, I don't know if I could take it either..." he replies, "if anything ever happened to you."
He plucks a blade of grass from the ground, knowing it will die from its seperation from the root.
"Death seems so.. final," he comments.
"Yeah," Jessie adds, resting her head on his shoulder. "I know."
They sit there quietly. As time passes, the sky changes colors, and the sun begins to set. The setting is so restful. Slowly they fall asleep there.
The sun sets and the city lights up. The moon dominates the sky with the stars.
Zero wakes up, not realizing how much time has passed. He shrugs Jessie a bit.
"Jess?"
Jessie wakes from the gentle shaking. Then she realizes the time. "Aw, geez."
Zero looks out to the bright city.
"It's such a great city." he says.
"Yeah. Well, except for all the evil running around. But they can be stopped," Jessie replies. She looks at Zero.
"Right?"
Zero gets up and goes to the edge of the hill. As he looks out he tells her, "Evil will never win. We can stop them. We all will."
He looks down at his hands.
"I was created to fight evil."
He looks back at Jessie, who is still sitting at the tree, rubbing her eyes.
"I was also meant to live my own life. To find balance between duty and desire," he says. "Jessie, do you have dreams? Hopes?"
"Well actually, one of my dreams was to find a good boyfriend." The girl smiled sheepishly. "I wouldn't mind getting a really cool job too. Like a singer or something." Jessie stands, and lies against the tree.
"I guess my biggest wish would be for everyone to be happy." She shrugged.
Zero returns to the tree, and sits in front of Jessie.
"Are YOU happy?" he asks.
"Yeah," Jessie responds. "I mean, I guess so. My life's not perfect, but it's okay.”
"Can you say at least ONE of your dreams are fulfilled?" Zero asks with a smile.
Jessie can't help but giggle at that. "Of course, Zero!" she says, hugging him.
He hugs her back.
In their embrace Zero adds, "We have nothing to worry about, as long as we're together."
Zero backs up but stays in her arms, and looks in her eyes.
"I brought you here so we can talk, and we did. Jess, do you love me?" he asks.
Jessie only smiles. Having all the confidence in the world, she kisses him for the first time, instead of the other way around.
Zero is surprised by her boldness, which is unusual for her, but their relationship is secure now.
"I love you Jessie Winkler.", says Zero, "You are my light, my first love. I... LOVE... YOU."
They ease back onto the tree together, still in each other’s arms.
"Do you believe me?" he asks.
He sounds so sincere that Jessie wants to cry, but she keeps the tears back. Zero can see it, though.
"I'm... I'm your first?" she whispers.
He puts his face to hers and responds, "Yeah. You showed me what true love is."
A few tears escape her eyes, but she blinks them away, grinning from ear to ear.
"You know... you're my first too," Jessie tells him, giggling.
Zero smiles and holds on to her.
It was tough. It was confusing at first, and even heartbreaking, but Zero had learned what love is. Being there with Jessie has given him strength and resolve, knowing that no matter what could go wrong, no matter what hate can be wrought upon him, he is loved.
Jessie closes her eyes, and just enjoys the feeling of holding Zero in her arms. She was never last, or even second in Zero's eyes.
That's what she loved about him.
And she was grateful that he loved her back.
