"The Useful/Useless Superhero"
Jessie carefully opens the door to the room she and her sister share while balancing a hot bowl of soup.
"HOOOOWAACHOOO!"
The loud sneeze scares Jessie and makes her drop the soup. Jane blows into a tissue. She's had gotten sick the day before, and Jessie offer to care for her big Sis.
"Ooooh, why are you so clumsy?", asks Jane insensitivity. Jessie just rolls her eyes, taking into account how rude she can be. Both are startled by knock at the window.
"I'm never gonna get used to that...", says Jane.
It was Zero, much to Jane's annoyance, but comes as a relief to Jessie. Jessie opens the window allowing Zero to float right in.
"What happened?", he asks.
"Jane's got a cold.", Jessie answers.
Zero looks at her blankly, then looks at Jane.
"She doesn't look very cold, in fact my sensors are picking up an abnormally high temperature for humans."
"Swing and a miss." snaps Jane.
"Hee, it doesn't work that way." says Jessie, who then tries to explain the concept of sickness to Zero.
"So she has something like the 'pig swine'?", he asks.
"You mean 'swine flu'."
"That's what I said."
*sigh*
After cleaning up the soup mess, Jessie leaves to make some more, leaving Zero with Jane. Zero examines her closely with his x-ray vision. He finds the infection.
"Whew, that looks nasty! Hard to believe that started with one tiny body invader!"
Jane, annoyed by Zero's commentary replies, "You're not gonna just stare at it are you?"
"Hm, I could combine my X-ray vision with my optic beam focusing a small on the infection and..."
"Don't even think about it!!!", Jane shrieks, throwing a pillow at him.
Downstairs, her parents Richard and Susan hear her shouting.
"Who's she talking to?", asks Susan.
Jessie pokes her head out the kitchen.
"Uh, she's delirious.", she explains, then gets back to the soup.
"What's going on up there?"
Jessie finishes the soup and heads back to the room. As she opens the door, Jane let's out a sudden cough. Jessie drops the soup again, but Zero catches it before it can spill.
"Thanks Z! You can just give that to Jane."
Zero takes to Jane and sets it on the bed tray. Before Jane can start eating it, Zero drops a few pills into it, to Jessie and Jane's shock.
"What are you doing?! Who puts drugs in food?!", shouts Jane.
"Actually, several farms..."
"Don't finish it!", shouts Jessie.
Jane picks up the soup and throws it at Zero who dodges it. At that moment Richard opens the door, which blocks his view of Zero.
"Is everything okay?!"
The soup promptly hits him in the face.
"YEEEEOOOOWWWW!!!"
He rushes of to clean it off. Jessie makes one more batch and is finally able to serve it to Jane.
"Sorry about the pills. I was just trying to help." says Zero.
"It's okay, I'm sure I can think of something for you to pay me back.", replies Jane.
"You're better a being a superhero anyway.", adds Jessie. "Besides, all she really needs is rest."
Jane finishes the soup.
"Whew, that was good. I'm done, you can take this away."
Jessie takes the bowl and spoon and leaves the room again.
"Hey Zero, I know how you can pay me back.", says Jane.
"How?"
"Jessie keep extra sheets in her dresser. Middle drawer. If you get me one I'll forgive you!"
"Okay!"
Zero looks into the drawer but is confused by what he sees. He picks up the odd looking article of clothing.
"This doesn't look like sheeting..."
At that moment, Jessie walks in.
"Hey Jane, I grabbed one of the extra sheets from the hall closet for y..."
She stops suddenly and drops the sheeting... after seeing a pair of her panties in Zero's hand.
"What are you...?", she asks, her face turning red. Jane can't contain her laughter.
Zero leaves shortly, deeply embarrassed. Jane was finally able to talk again and explain the situation to Jessie.
"You're so mean!", scolds Jessie.
"Well, laughter is the best medicine.", replies Jane. She starts to cough hard.
"Serves you right...", says Jessie.
Jane clears her throat and looks out the window. She can hear a firetruck in the distance. Surely Zero would be responding to the emergency.
"Well, he is genuine when he wants to help.", she says. "And that's kinda cool. I'm glad he's together with you."
Jessie smiles, taking Jane's words to heart.
"Don't tell him I said that!", Jane warns though.
"O-okay!", responds Jessie. "I just hope he doesn't go overboard trying to make up with me..."
Outside, Zero is floating towards the window with a truck of flowers...
