I put this in MLaaTR section cause it will feature her but I'm not sure if this is where this thread should go... please tell me where to put it if I'm wrong. ^.^ Thanks NOW, on with the topic. I would REALLY love some feedback on this, negative or positive. My best friend's Dad owns a restaurant on the River. Now for right now, it is just like this typical seafood restaurant with a spot on the river and a bar area. I have had this idea for years but I never thought of really how successful it would be. A Cartoon themed restaurant. Crazy? I know. It isn't a HUGE restaurant but I think I could squeeze quite a bit in there while still providing enough room for free motion of servers and/ or customers. Think of it as one of those diners of the places near Disney land, they have pictures lined on the walls with Mickey and other Disney characters, kinda what I'm goin for here, except Cartoon Network, Nick, and such themed characters. I would love to try to add in some say, an XJ9 plastered figure in a room, maybe an Invader Zim figure in another, although I don't care for the show, she does and so do a lot of other people. Maybe the bar be themed like "adult Swim" with some POPULAR anime in the mix? Pictures, place mats, games on one of those little computers at the beginning and ending of bars, Not the anime of Pokemon though... that would go some place else. XD Now I know what your thinking, money. Yes, I know that would cost some money, getting the rights to do this, the 5- 6 foot figures and trying to find a chef to create the show's "themed" food, just thinking about makes my wallet cringe... but I just wanted some feedback. Good/ bad, suggestions, why or why/ not this would work. Anything is helpful, just please give some reasons for your decision, I don't care if you think this would be a total disaster, tell it to me. She doesn't want it to be a seafood restaurant when she takes over and she loves cartoons like I do so... I want to know the honest truth. ;D Thanks!

I think that would be a great idea! I, and a lot of other cartoon/anime fans would definetily go there. It might cost a bit, that's the only con I can find. Sounds like a cute family/friends/otaku restaurant.

Thanks! ^.^ But the only other question.... how much business would I logically get? You know, if it's just a couple wanting to get a drink, I doubt they'll want to stop. It would make a good family restaurant but I do NOT want a Chucke- cheese, sp?, up in there TT.TT ugh!

I think it would be fine as long as the food is good, lol.

Um...problem, what about licensing? Usually to use the image of a popular character(or characters) in a public setting like that you have to license them from their parent companies, and they're going to ask for a lot of money for the licenses. Sometimes you can get away with two or three unlicensed images, but if it's literally the theme of the whole place people from CN and Nick are going to start wondering why they aren't getting their cut. I know you cited all the restaurants by Disneyland, but those have the approval of Disney in most cases, or at the very least are close enough to a spot that's going to generate revenue that Disney doesn't care. This...this seems a lot riskier. I would tread extremely carefully or look for a less legally dubious gimmick.

oh yes I agree. That's another HUGE problem that will come about. Thankfully, I wouldn't be dealing with Disney in this one, that would be too much of a head ache to think about XP Well, that's the thing... That would be a one of kind restaurant no?? I think it would be interesting to tell the idea to them, Nick and CN, to see there reaction...
Oh yes, I KNOW it's going to cost some money but it would be the job I would literally love to help with. I don't know how much money it would cost, but if I sent some pictures of the place to them and showed them what it "would" look like, photoshoped everything in there I wanted, I would like to see what they say. Maybe if they would control where everything went then maybe they would give me SOME leeway, I know I would still have to pay some serious money.
Thanks for the advise there at the end, but I'm just going to have to stick with... all or nothing in this case. If I can't get the idea I'm going for, then I will just have to let her decided and it will prolly stay a Seafood place.
If I COULD get the rights.... do you think it would be successful?

This sounds like a cool idea but I think Champ is right. You need the rights and legal mumbo jumbo. If you could get the rights, then I think it would be successful as long as you have good food as well. Because that should always come before decorations/theme. Why do you think some holes in the wall are popular to eat at? What kind of seafood do they serve? Because maybe you could make some Japanese-style stuff with XJ9 bento.
Also, I'm not sure this thread belongs under "The Show". It's sorta related but shouldn't this be under Mezmers?

Oh yeah, and just like I told Champ, trust me I KNOW it would cost some money to get the rights. I have heard what my friend's dad has gone through good gosh, legal garbage just to have the proper seats, alcohol license, and all that gibber gabber, it's very expensive.
Well that could be true and not true. There is this restaurant in St. Augustine that sells HORRIBLE food. How do they stay alive? Because they are tourists that go there, one time situation so it doesn't really matter if there food is all that great. Does "she" plan on doing that? Well of course not... We don't want to rip of our customers... ^^' Since it is already a "seafood" joint, then yes she already has the good food already down, that's how the place is in business.... and there's a volleyball court ^_^
Wait wait wait.... you're telling me I should go with anime and XJ9? I wish.... but I just don't think that would work. There are so many fans of so many other fandoms, XJ9 would just be another addition, I can't make money off her purely... sadly @-@ But like I told Champ as well... it's either all or nothing. If I can't as many cartoons in there as possible and I'm limited to just like 2... I may as well not even suggest the idea.
I want to encouragement as MANY fandoms as possible so that as many fans as possible will want to come... well other than anime... I would have to limit that... there is just WAY too many of those for just one bar area... >.>'''
Thanks, I wasn't sure if I should put it in Mezmers.... I will try to figure out how to do that....
Well, then that still leads me to another question. Does it seem logical, does it seem logical that there would be ENOUGH people to want to stop in knowing that it's a cartoon restaurant. If I could get the rights.... it scares me to think the business would sink... a lot of people I have talked to want to think that owning a restaurant is easy peasy business that you just make money... but that's not true. No, I'm not singling you out XJ9, I'm talking to anyone that reads this. A restaurant is a HUGE money death trap in itself... but as far as I know... no one else owns a "cartoon" restaurant, that's what makes me think this MIGHT work. >.>

No. I was just suggesting ideas for cartoon-themed food. You can bento anything if you're creative enough. It's a quite bit of work though, but it's the first thing I thought of for cartoon food. If you want, check out this "Lost" bento: www.aibento.net/category/themes/lost/She also has Disney bento. Maybe the employees could also cosplay classic cartoon characters like Popeye or Mickey.

oooh, gosh, I'm so sorry, I took your response all the wrong way. ^-^
I was thinking of something like that.... but again, to pay chefs to pay for something like that... yeesh. But again, I agree, it's kind of like the all or nothing deal, you know... getting the food to look like it could be just one more thing. and that website is absolutely adorable... thanks! ^_^
and yes, I would love to interview employees with the intention of telling them they will be dressing up Like Brad, or Sandy when they come to work. >.> I might let the waiters have some sanity though and let them wear just plain colored uniforms.... ^^"'

That's alright. Yeah, it would be expensive. I was just tossing ideas out there. Probably the cheapest thing you could do for the food is to change the names of the dishes. (Like naming it after a specific food on a show, ie Krabby Patties).

Hmm, you could try putting in characters that bare a similarity to the many fandoms, while still making them unique and evocative enough to avoid lega BS and still draw in customers. (Like how the store owner from Lucky Star bears a resemblance to the pilot of the Perfect Gundam, as well as a bunch of other characters and scenes)

(Like how the store owner from Lucky Star bears a resemblance to the pilot of the Perfect Gundam, as well as a bunch of other characters and scenes) I didn't even think of that! xD Love the idea. I was just asking my Dad later this afternoon about that. I put it in sense of if I made a product that happened to taste very similar to coke, would it be legal. He said it would be, as long as I didn't "steal" the recipe for it in the first place. What a interesting idea. But I'm not sure how knock off I could get, example, from Jenny so that Nick wouldn't be at my door step about it. I'm thinkin, I'm thinkin, maybe a Jenny replica with like, an entirely blue boot instead of the white at the bottom...I'm not sure how "close" you could get it before it becomes illegal. ^^' But I love the idea, thanks To XJ9: That's another good idea xD I love the idea of the Crabby Patty. Though, trying to replicate Chowder's food might prove more difficult
