On the recommendation of a certain admin, I'm updating my OC's profile to fit the current RP timeline.
NAME: Gene Wright
RACE: Human
CLASS: Bioengineer
ALIGNMENT: Lawful Neutral
DOB: 11 November 2048
SEX: Male
HEIGHT: 175 cm
WEIGHT: 66 kg
PERSONALITY:
Gene Wright is first and foremost a man of science, though after the incident of '75 he has shied away from cutting-edge research, preferring instead to find new applications for existing technology. All he wants is a peaceful work environment, and he considers a stable social order crucial to that end. As such, he does what he can to support existing authorities, whether by lending his aid or staying out of the way, and will refuse to fight opponents acting under color of law. (The only exception to the latter rule is when both sides of a conflict are lawful authorities, as in a war, and even then he will only go after a clear aggressor.) He has little respect for those who act outside the law or otherwise threaten to disrupt the social order, which means he has few friends in Tremorton.
In a crisis, Wright's first preference is always diplomacy. The only time he will punch first and ask questions later is when dealing with soldiers, who generally have no negotiating authority and are trained not to surrender until defeated, and with creatures obviously incapable of rational thought. Even then he scrupulously avoids lethal force except in self-defense -- though modern medical science allows for a very broad definition of "non-lethal." When negotiating with an opponent, nearly everything is on the table. He is willing to forgive the worst crimes and sell out his allies in the name of peace. The only things he won't do are break his word and sacrifice his own life or freedom.
HISTORY:
2048: Gene Wright is born in Townsville, San Andreas. The son of a self-employed software designer and a high-powered intellectual property lawyer, he enjoys a relatively comfortable childhood.
2063: Wright is enrolled at Pokey Oaks High School. He is known as a teacher's pet for trying to bring discipline to the classroom. He is frequently targeted by bullies as a result, but they find his defiant attitude impossible to break. (He even goes so far as to critique their humiliations and suggest improvements.)
2067: Wright graduates from high school and enrolls at San Andreas State University (SASU). The interstellar students and faculty give him an outsider's perspective on Earth, and it is less than encouraging. As he would explain to his mother, "[w]e're basically the Somalia of the galaxy."
2071: Wright receives his B.S. in Bioengineering from SASU.
2073: Wright receives his M.S. in Bioengineering from SASU.
2074: Wright starts GMO Gardens, an online company that sells genetically engineered decorative plants, to pay for his ongoing education.
September 2075: While acting as a research assistant at SASU, Wright is asked to study an unidentified alien organism. He is a bit lax with the safety protocols that day, so when a routine test causes the creature to react violently, it easily escapes confinement. The university suffers tens of millions of dollars in property damage, and six Skyway Patrol officers die trying to stop the beast. Wright is subsequently traumatized and expelled from the university.
January 2076: Wright makes a New Year's resolution to get his life back on track. Knowing the similarities between his field and the nanotechnology employed by many modern robots, he decides to move to Tremorton, "the worst city on Earth," to draw inspiration from the roboticists there in order to continue his studies. Having grown up in Townsville, he assumes Tremorton cannot be too much worse. He is wrong.
February 2076: Tremorton is invaded by Star Force. Wright uses Yellow Sun, a viral formula he developed at SASU, to give himself metahuman abilities so that he can defend the town. In the process, he meets with some of Tremorton's other "meta" vigilantes and is horrified by their rashness and brutality. He also meets Vexus, Queen of the Lesser Cluster and alleged instigator of the invasion, for whom he admits a degree of respect despite (or perhaps because of) her hostility toward Earth and humanity. Wright laters corners Vexus and negotiates a cease-fire between his world and hers, one of the terms of which is that he work on her behalf to achieve legal equality for Earth's robot population. Notably, the cease-fire allows Vexus to continue pursuing her mortal enemy XJ-9.
April 2077: After over a year of unsuccessful activism, Wright questions whether Vexus has burdened him with an impossible task. His question is apparently answered when the governments of Earth, encouraged by a now-legitimate Star Force, declare war on the planet's metahumans (including, of course, its sapient robots). Not wanting to take sides in the conflict, Wright purges the Yellow Sun from his system. He then contacts General Balaam, head of Star Force, to offer his surrender and negotiate a peaceful resolution to the war. Balaam responds by sending a hit squad to Wright's house. After the hit squad is eviscerated by the perimeter of weaponized plants in Wright's yard, he calls Vexus to request refugee status for himself and a protective detail for his parents. Vexus accepts and evacuates Wright to Cluster space.
June 2077: With the collapse of Star Force and the sudden wave of sympathy toward metas, Earth appears especially receptive to a plea for full robot equality. Wright is sent back to Earth to finish his job, though he remains skeptical that it can be done.
