"Nil", a short story featuring Zero and Jessie.

"What was it like?", Jessie asks.
Zero has a brief look of meditation, but shakes his head as he has no answer.
"I don't know how to describe it. It can't be the same as what humans dream of.", he replies, "not that I really have any memory of it."
"It's not a dream to me, Zero. It's what I believe."
"I cannot help you in this case. I'm sorry."
Zero has an expression of disappointment with himself.
"In the end, I am a machine. My father may have designed me to be a new type of mechanical organism, but that's all I am... a machine. The idea of a spirit, or soul, can't apply to me."
Jessie poke her finger onto his chest.
"Yes it can.", she says firmly, "You're alive. I may not understand it... no one may for many years, but right now, to me, you have a soul. I will not believe it can be extinguished."
She hugs him.
"Please share your experience with me."
Zero holds her.
"It was like having a dream that can't be remembered. I know I was somewhere. I did something important, but then all I can remember was waking up in Wakeman's lab. I didn't even have time to ponder over what had happened. I had to help you fight Star Force."
"Then it wasn't your time."
They sit on the hill overlooking Tremorton, nothing more to be said for the moment. Yet Zero did have a realization then.
Death terrified him.

Somewhere, everywhere, nowhere, outside the realm of thought, a lone person sits.
"You promised to remember us. Please don't forget... I don't want to die."
