I've been posting from my IPad most of this weekend. My computer crashed Friday evening, and I spent most of the weekend trying to fix it. I reloaded my OS 5 times. At first I thought it was a faulty update from Windows, and disabled them. Next I loaded Ubuntu to run along side, but I don't have the patience to learn it properly, plus I had couldn't get my most important programs.
Afterwards, I discovered that my Windows was slowed down. Removing Ubuntu fixed the problem, but I still had a lag.
Now I've learned that the issue is my hard drive. It's damaged. Good thing I had my games and projects saved to a separate drive.
I'm now loading Windows to a new HDD.
Ugh... I'm tired and low on patience.
Just had to vent a bit. It's been a rough weekend.

Hang in there, Zero. You told me yourself that stuff like this is small potatoes.

A messed-up hard drive was what I had to go through a few years ago. Oddly enough, it still works like a charm, provided I use it as a secondary hard drive and not the one that the OS is installed on. For that, I got myself an SSD so I could count the boot-up time on one hand. It's pretty rad.
I still got a new 1TB hard drive and moved all of the old files onto that, because I didn't want to risk losing it for good.

My brother got a solid state too, but how do you keep those cool?

Oftentimes, good air filtration helps. It also helps to not install very intensive software on the SSD proper. I never tried building a water cooling system, but my tower's got lots of space and a good number of fans... Although the fans were what were built into the tower I ordered.
To help with air filtration, you'll want to wrap cables together to allow more space for air to flow through.
