I thought this forum really needs a topic on perhaps the coolest show on Cartoon Network now, Steven Universe. It's one of the few non-anime shows I actually like too. Steven Universe tells the story of a boy named Steven, and his friends who are these mystic light beings with a gem core called "The Crystal Gems," who are all based on precious stones, such as Garnet, Pearl, and Amethyst. Steven also happens to be related to a Crystal Gem himself. Each episode involves their adventures meeting other Crystal Gems, or facing against other Enemy Crystal Gems who wish to do them harm, taking them down, and collecting their Crystal. It deals with a lot of big themes in it too, and is very action-packed for a typical show like this. Also, each episode foreshadows the end of the season. Anyone else like this great new show?

Fixed the title for ya there.
And man, you need to pay attention to what you watch.
Steven is a child, being raised by the Crystal Gems, immortal beings made of light projected from their gems: Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl. His human father, Greg Universe runs a car wash. His mother, Rose Quartz, is not present.
Each episode covers a mission or adventure featuring them confronting a creature and capturing it's gem after defeating it. Various themes covered are growing up, family, friendship, love, and doing your best. Each episode also contains foreshadowing leading to the events of the end of the season.
His relation with the Gems is like that of various motherly archetypes. Garnet is stern and wise, Amethyst is fun, yet emotional, and Pearl is caring and protective. The relation with his father is typical. Greg loves his son very much and cares for his safety. He values their time together, but deeply trusts the Gems in his upbringing due to Steven's Gem heritage.
We learn that Steven is the first and only existing Gem/Human hybrid. Steven's gem belonged to his mother, therefore they cannot exist at the same time, so Rose gave up her physical form to give birth to Steven. Because of this, the Crystal Gems are not always entirely sure what Steven is capable of.
The main overarching story involves Steven's mother and a conflict among the Gem race that occurred on Earth 6,000 years prior to the show's beginning.
We'll be getting a new episode every day of next week, ending with the season finale.

Garnet is easily my favorite character. Not only are her weapons the classic fisticuffs, my favorite way of beating the hell out of something, but she's the most stoic and just of the crystal gems. Amethyst is chaotic and often comes off as an irresponsible bully. Pearl is her foil in being proper and organized to a fault, coming across as someone with a superiority complex, a personal pet peeve of mine. There seriously isn't a faster way to get me to hate someone. Garnet comes across to me as a veteran, someone that's seen enough sh*t to know where her priorities are. While not infallible, she often has the best advice in the rare instances that she speaks. While Pearl and Amethyst are foils of each other, Garnet seems to be a middleground. I don't think anyone on the team fights harder than Garnet does.

Agreed! I really like Garnet too! I can see why you'd like her. Her one attack is like Mazinger's signature Rocket Punch.
My second fav has to be Lion. He's such a neat and lovable Pet/Guardian creature.

Definitely Steven's father. (I forget his name!)

Oh yeah, that guy's my second favorite. He's a flawed, broken man with a heart of tarnished gold.

God DAYUM that was an good cliffhanger. I can't wait to see what the advanced Gem weapons look like! Also can't wait for the inevitable fight with Peridot.

Wow, lately loads of people I know on DA have been designing their own Steven Universe Fan-Characters based on various other types of precious stones. I've seen almost as many as I've seen DBZ Fan-Characters. A couple of them are really cool and unique too. I could show you some of the ones I've found. You might be interested.
Also, been watching more. Whoa, those Gem Fusions are so awesome!
I've heard this theory that Garnet might actually be a Gem Fusion herself too

Double Posting, but an awesome new episode just aired. Things just got even worse!
Oh my god, so THIS is what the Homeworld does to rebellious gems? They shatter them, then stick their fragments together to make these hideous monsters of arms and legs and eyes, like some sort of Gem Frankenstein Monster? That has to be the most unsettling thing I've ever seen in the series.
I wonder if Gem Corruption is also done in a similar manner, but with non-shattered gems?

I think Gem corruption is more like Ghouls turning Feral in the Fallout series: after a long time away from civilization and community, ghouls (who's sense of self is already questioned by the ghoulification they went through) slowly and steadily lose their sanity, eventually losing the ability to reason and becoming simple, mindless monsters.
This would most CERTAINLY be the case for any surviving Gems, as the Crystal Gems seem to be the only example of Gems that have integrated into society. This is further proved by the Homeworld Gems' views of humans, that humans are lower lifeforms. Hell, this is probably why the Crystal Gems had chosen to isolate themselves at first.

Interesting theory. So they are like "Feral Gems." Would explain why they are so animal-like. Maybe a good amount of Rose's army couldn't handle this, and became Monster Gems, with only these four being the ones who adapted better.
Also, the rest of this little segment of episodes were rather interesting. We get to see more about their past, including the pretty-looking fusion between Pearl and Rose, Rainbow Quartz. I liked this segment.
Also that latest episode brought something up, after that funny and crazy and trippy dream sequence (hipster Amethyst made me chuckle a little).
So things are now getting even worse for Lapis, who is still fused with Jasper as Malachite, and keeping her trapped under the ocean. As if she hasn't been through enough, now they are starting to lose their individuality, like Sugulite almost did.
This definitely looks like a Pandora's Box coming soon. I mean, Lapis herself is perhaps the strongest Non-Fusion Gem yet (her Aqua Powers can clone others at full power and even create a Space Elevator), and she's now fused with Jasper, another Non-Fusion Gem who, though not as strong as Lapis, was able to hold out against even Garnet on her own. Those two extremely powerful gems, now fused as Malachite, would be perhaps the most powerful Two-Fusion yet. And from what was seen in Chille-Tid, now their minds and personalities are starting to fuse as well (despite how unwilling and unstable that was of a fusion done as a last resort). This may mean that they'll become someone totally different, and she will willingly release herself from her underwater prison (no longer dominated by Lapis, but not exactly Jasper either). So perhaps Malachite will be the most powerful foe they will have ever faced. I'm guessing she might end up being The Last Boss too.
