So with our activity grinding to a halt I started digging through my old files to share some of my (presently) unrealized ambitions with you guys, and this is one that really stood out. Originally I had a lot of absolutely huge plans for the 10th anniversary of MLAATR, not only was I going to create this RP but I was also going to start a future-timeline story called "Legacy of a Teenage Robot", that would follow our future-era characters as adults, looking back at a world where Jenny and the other metas had been around for several decades. The plan for this RP was that it was going to serve as something of a "jumping-off" point, it was sort of a "grand-finale" for our characters as high schoolers, closing off the early days of their conflicts and allowing us to further develop our characters while moving them to a college setting. A lot of family drama prevented me from getting to write this story on time and I just never got back to it, unfortunately. Anyway, here's what I had planned for the 10th anniversary, I called it "The Power of Ten". Keep in mind this only includes the parts of the story concerning Jenny and my own characters.
Synopsis: As Jenny enters what will be her last year at Tremorton High Doctor Wakeman finds herself proud of the young woman her robotic daughter has grown into. Wanting to give her the gift of freedom for graduation she secretly begins work on XJ-10, who she plans to use as the new Global Response Unit, allowing Jenny to have a normal life. Before long the new robot is unleashed on the world, and Jenny is given the normal life she always wanted, but things go wrong when XJ-10 interprets the directive to stop all crime as being best completed by making the act of committing a crime impossible. She determines that the best way to do this is to remove humanity's ability to choose to disobey the law by converting them into cyborgs that would be incapable of ignoring their directives by their very nature. As she tries to gather the people of Tremorton to convert them the heroes rush to stop her, but each will be presented with their own challenges in the process, forcing them to decide what they can surrender in the name of the heroism. The final choice will rest with Jenny, and her decision will determine the fate of Tremorton.
Outline:
Part 1: The End Begins- A baseball flies through the air, only to be caught by Jenny Wakeman, who tosses it back to its owner, Tuck, and asks him if he’s ever going to learn. As she tosses the ball back she joins Brad and Sheldon, walking to Mezmers where most of their friends are waiting. Looking out at the city, Brad muses that he can’t believe that the group will soon be leaving this behind. Jenny asks why and Brad points out that they’ll soon be entering their senior year of high school, and after that they’ll be off to college. Jenny falls silent, starting to realize the implication of Brad’s words. Brad then starts to ask the others what their plans are for college, with Azure in particular dodging the question, but when the conversation gets to Jenny she points out that she can’t leave because of her duties. Sheldon tries to comfort her, pointing out that he’ll be staying in Tremorton to attend Tremorton Tech, but Jenny flippantly dismisses this, saying it hardly makes up for the absence of her other friends. Realizing the conversation is taking a bad turn Brad asks if anyone has seen Colette, and Azure says she declined her invitation because she had something more important to take care of.
Across town Colette watches from the distance as a memorial is unveiled honoring the victims of the ZX incident. As the ceremony ends Colette approaches the memorial, apologizing, but a nearby woman recognizes her and berates her for her presence. Colette tries to defend herself, but the woman says that she doesn’t care how sorry Colette is, as having lost her father due to the Mogg family’s incompetence she will never forgive them.
Colette is unnerved by this thought, but is broken from her reverie by a nearby explosion. Across town one of Jenny’s alarms goes off, and the heroes rush to respond, but as they leave Azure tells Champ she has something important to tell him. He promises to catch up with her later.
Downtown the heroes find Himcules, the Lancer, and The Hammer Bros. attempting to rob a jewelry store, and as they fight Himcules asks Champ if it bothers him that his identity is known. Champ asks why it would, and Himcules tells him it would be easy to hurt Blair or Azure, and that he can’t protect them all the time. As Champ is shaken by this Himcules gains the upper hand, but Jenny is able to save him, and the heroes quickly finish off the opposition. As he’s taken away Himcules points out that this can’t last, and that the heroes will have to grow up some time. Shaken, the heroes separate, with Jenny thinking to herself that for her Himcules is wrong, as she’ll be stuck acting as a hero for the rest of her life.
In the meantime Champ arrives at Azure’s house, asking what was so important. Azure asks him if he has plans for after high school, and he says that he’ll probably stay close to home, as he feels he owes it to the people of Tremorton to stick around. Azure agrees, and when Champ redirects the question at her she admits that she’s been thinking of returning to New York. Champ is shocked, but realizing that this is what she wants and that it will keep her safe he agrees that it’s probably for the best. As he leaves he thinks back on Himcules’ words one last time, and tells Azure to take care of herself.
At the Mogg home Colette asks Vincent if he feels she’s really made a difference to the people of Tremorton, and he says that he believes she has, but when she asks if that will change the city’s opinion of her family he admits that he isn’t sure.
At the Wakeman home Jenny broods over photos of Dr.Wakeman’s own graduation, and when the Doctor asks her what’s wrong Jenny tells her about her earlier conversation. Seeing how hurt her daughter is Dr. Wakeman apologizes, telling Jenny she didn’t realize how hard of a life she was setting her up for, and telling her that she’s proud of her. Jenny says that sometimes she wishes it was someone else’s job to save the world. This strikes a chord with the Doctor, and she goes down to the lab, dusting off a half-built prototype and saying that it might finally be time to finish work on it.
Part 2: Building a Better Hero- A week passes, and as Jenny starts to leave one morning Dr. Wakeman stops her, telling her that she has something to show her. She leads her down to the lab, revealing a silver robot almost identical to Jenny herself. When Jenny asks what it is Dr. Wakeman says it’s a graduation present, telling Jenny that she’s realized how unfair it is to force Jenny to give up her life to be a hero, so she has built a robot with no personality beyond her prime directive to stop crime and protect humanity to replace Jenny, allowing the teenage robot to lead a normal life. Jenny thanks her, but asks why she would do this, to which Dr. Wakeman responds that Jenny is the daughter she always wanted, but as a parent she had to know when to let her go.
On the other side of town Champ, Colette, and Azure hang out at the mall, Azure saying they should make the most of the time they have left. Champ tries to be cheerful, but Azure figures out that something is wrong, and asks him about it. He asks her if he made a mistake by hiding his identity. She says that he hasn’t, as by giving the people of Tremorton a human face to rally around he serves as a better inspiration, but then he asks if she’s ever been worried about being hurt because of him, and before she can answer the conversation is cut short by a commotion nearby.
Elsewhere, Jenny, Brad, Tuck, and Sheldon are in an arcade as one of Jenny’s alarms goes off. When the others ask if she’s going to do something Jenny says she’s sure someone else will take care of it. Enraged at Jenny’s flippancy towards her duties Sheldon calls the Silver Shell armor to him. Back at the mall Champ and Colette battle Himcules and co. again, eventually gaining support from Sheldon. At first things go well, but the Lancer eventually manages to get the drop on Champ, and is about to attack him before being stopped by Azure. Her interference leaves her severely wounded, and leaves Champ shell shocked, and while Colette and Sheldon attempt to protect him they end up surrounded. Just as things appear most dire, however, XJ-10 arrives, saving them with stunning efficiency. As Sheldon and Colette try to make sense of 10’s presence an ambulance arrives, and as Champ rides with Azure he cries that this is all his fault.
At the hospital the heroes wonder about XJ-10, until Jenny arrives and explains what she is, XJ-10 alongside her. The others are shocked, but Jenny explains that Dr. Wakeman built XJ-10 so she can be free, and that she can go to college now, no longer needing to be a hero. While the others are unnerved by XJ-10 Sheldon is the only one who is outright hostile, arguing that Jenny is using XJ-10 as an excuse to give up her responsibilities, and when she argues that they aren’t her responsibilities anymore he argues that as long as she has the ability to help people it will be her responsibility. However, Champ interrupts, saying that what’s happened today is what happens when people try to take on that responsibility, and that Jenny might be right, and Tremorton might not need heroes anymore. Before anyone can speak the doctor arrives, telling them that Azure is conscious and they can see her. The others see her briefly, but Champ stays, telling Azure he’s sorry, and that this is his fault. Azure tries to argue that it isn’t, but he says he can’t do this anymore, and can’t bare worrying about people being hurt because of him. Azure tries to argue that Tremorton needs him, but he says that they have XJ-10 now. He apologizes, leaving, and as he does she argues that she needs him, because he’s her hero. In the Mogg home Colette puts the Vector armor into storage. Vincent asks her what she’s going to do now, and she admits that she doesn’t know.
Part 3: No More Heroes- Himcules and company attempt another heist, only to be stopped in mere moments by XJ-10. Meanwhile, at the hospital. Azure tells Champ she has something to show him. She pulls back the dividing curtain between her and the bed next to her to reveal Rain, and when Champ asks what’s going on Blair arrives, telling Champ that she had asked her to be moved to show Champ what happened to Azure wasn’t his fault. Champ is furious, asking if they’re blaming him for the attack on Rain, but Blair says this isn’t true, and that nothing could have prevented it, that bad things happen no matter what, but that by being a hero Champ has prevented dozens of others from ending up like Rain. Champ says that Xj-10 is now accomplishing what he did, but Azure argues that 10 can’t provide what Champ does, inspiration. Since Champ is a normal human he inspires people to be better, but Champ argues it isn’t worth it, saying he became a hero to prevent people ending up like Rain, but Azure is lucky to be alive, and the he can’t bear the thought of losing her or Blair because of his actions.
Elsewhere, Sheldon stops too late to stop a crime already taken care of by 10.
At Wizzly world Jenny and Brad enjoy a day at the park, and Jenny notes how relaxing it is to have a day where she doesn’t have to worry about being called away. Brit and tiff taunt her, saying what a shame it is that she’s been replace, but Don Prima arrives, asking if this is true. Jenny says it is, and he says if she’s free he should come to her party later in the week, much to the amazement of Brit and Tiff.
Elsewhere 10 stops another crime.
At the Mogg home Colette throws aside another new invention, one of several she’s started in the last few days. Her father asks her what’s wrong, but instead of answer she asks him how he deals with the fallout of the ZX incident, but he tells her he doesn’t. She’s surprised by this, but he clarifies saying that rather than trying to cope with it he uses it as motivation, telling himself that if he can save more lives than were lost he’ll have properly honored the memory of those that were killed. Colette is touched, and pulls the Vector suit out of storage, starting to think she may have been wrong, and it might do her some good.
Elsewhere 10 stops Himcules and co. yet again, and Misty, who has been observing, applauds her. 10 is initially cautious, but Misty points out she’s committed no crime, and only came because she wanted to see Jenny’s replacement. She tells her she’s impressed, and that she’s much more efficient than Jenny, but points out that, like Jenny, it’s a shame she’s stuck dealing with the same crooks over and over again. 10 is confused, but Misty asks how many times she’s put away the same criminals. 10 thinks it over, but Misty says that unless she can find a permanent solution she’ll be stuck fighting the same battles forever. 10 asks what that solution might be, and Misty suggests killing the crooks, but 10 tells her that she can’t because of her programming, to which Misty replies that’s too bad, as without a solution she’ll be stuck in an endless cycle of trying to save the world only to watch it fall back into threat from the same forces. 10, seeing the logic in Misty’s statement, begins searching for a solution.
Part 4: The Evitable Conflict- The next day Dr. Wakeman goes down to the lab to find XJ-10 waiting with the first 8 XJ robots. Wakeman asks her what she’s doing, and 10 tells the Doctor that she has used the Futurescope to calculate all possible futures for Tremorton and all are the same, the same criminals threaten the city and eventually, always, it falls when one of those threats manages to get the upper hand. She then tells Wakeman not to worry, as she has worked out a solution. Wakeman asks her what she means, and 10 explains that crime is born of choice, as one decides to do evil, and become a criminal, and that therefore in order to accomplish 10’s directive she must eliminate choice. The doctor tells her that this is madness, but 10 says it is just logic, and reveals an electronic device, telling the doctor that it’s okay, and the process doesn’t hurt. As XJ-4 operates on Wakeman despite her protests 10 turns to the others and tells them they need more forces if they’re going to convert mankind, but that she doesn’t know where to get them. XJ-8 pulls out a map and points to an abandoned Skyway base, suggesting they might find reinforcements there.
Across town Champ goes to visit Azure, giving her an invite to Don Prima’s party. She politely declines, as she has a surgery that day, and sensing the tension in the room Champ asks her if she’s still mad at him. She tells him that she’s not mad, just disappointed. After another pause she asks Champ if she’s ever told him about her father, and he says she hasn’t. She tells him about him, explaining that Champ reminds her of him due to his commitment to his duty, and that the reason she wants to go back to New York is to help her get over his death. Champ says he sounds like a great man, and Azure tells him that he could be one too if he stopped being afraid of the cost. Champ leaves, silently thinking over what she has said.
At the abandoned Skyway base 10 discovers a number of deactivated combat droids left over from the days before the Cluster war, and tells XJ-8 to begin reprogramming them. She finds an empty silo, and asks what was housed there. XJ-6 says it was Armagedroid, and 10 tells her to find it, as she believes he can assist in their plan.
At the Mogg house Colette is working with Phineas on a new combat suit for Skyway based on her own Vector suit when her father comes downstairs carrying her equipment and asking what it is. Colette answers honestly, and at first he is horrified, but when she tells him why she did it he is surprised and asks why she stopped. When she says she didn’t make a difference he tells her she’s wrong, and that as Vector she saved far more lives than ZX ended. She says it doesn’t matter anymore, but he says it does, as whether the people of Tremorton forgive their family or not they need a reminder that sometimes all it takes to be a real hero is a solid mind and a desire to do good.
That night Sheldon finds Jenny at Mezmers, talking with a number of students, having become popular in her newfound freedom. He pulls her aside, and asks her if she’s really happy. She says she is, as now she has lots of friends, but Sheldon asks her if they’re as good of friends as her fellow heroes, before saying that with them they’re bonded by common values, rather than something shallower. Jenny says he isn’t being fair, but he tells her that she should ask herself if she’ll keep in touch with any of these people after high school.
Underground, XJ-10 meets with Armagedroid, who agrees to her plan, asking when they’ll start. She tells him they should be ready the next day.
Part 5: The Final Decision-The next morning Champ wakes early toying with his sword and wondering if Azure was right. He’s freed from his reverie by Colette, who calls to ask if he’s planning to go to Don’s party, but he says he’s decided to go see Azure instead. Colette says she probably won’t go herself, as she’s got a lot of thinking to do.
Elsewhere, XJ-10 arrives at Jeanne-Phillipe’s, patching herself in to the antenna and preparing to broadcast.
That afternoon at the party Jenny reconsiders what Sheldon said, realizing that she’s become distant from her friends. She’s about to ask Brad if she’s done the right thing when Don rushes out telling Jenny something is happening. On TV XJ-10 tells the people of Tremorton that she will free them from evil by upgrading them, and that they must report to a conversion center or be taken by force. As this statement finishes a swarm of drones, as well as the 8 XJ- bots descend upon the city, going to the various conversion centers and beginning to gather citizens. The heroes all spring into action, save for Jenny, with Champ immediately going to the hospital. He arrives as Azure attempt to fight off a drone, another having taken Rain. Champ arrives, destroying the drone, and Azure thanks him, apologizing about Rain. He tells her not to apologize, because she was right, bad things will happen to the one’s he loves no matter what, but as a hero he can make a difference and protect them. He then admits that he only quit because he was afraid of her getting hurt because he loves her. She tells him she loves him as well, saying the reasons she wasn’t sure about going to New York was him. They kiss, and Azure tells him he has work to do. He leaves, and she smiles as he goes, glad to see he’s doing what he must to become a great man.
At the Tremorton mall Colette battles Xj-8, and while things initially go well her distortion fields are destroyed. She attempts to take the battle away from civilians, but Colette eventually finds herself stuck in front of a group of people, including the woman who berated her at the memorial. As XJ-8 charges another attack Colette realizes that if she dodges people will be hurt, so she takes the blow, severely damaging her suit in the process. As she gets up she notices a weak spot on 8, but her visor is too damaged to properly target it, so she removes it, revealing her identity. The crowd is shocked, but Colette ignores them, defeating 8. After the battle is done the woman asks Colette why she would protect the very people that hated her family, but Colette tells her that all her family ever wanted to do was help.
At Tremorton High XJ-6 and XJ-7 battle Skyway Patrol, and when Blair sees them taking Rain to be converted she breaks off from her squad, trying to fight 6 & 7 by herself. They’re too much for her, but Champ arrives, turning the tide of the fight. They’re quickly joined by Colette and Sheldon, and together the heroes overwhelm the bots. Blair recovers Rain, and tells her brother she’s glad to see him back at what he does best. He smiles, saying it helps to learn from the best before leaving. As he does Rain awakens, asking Blair how long she’s been asleep.
After defeating another XJ-bot Sheldon tells the heroes to take care of the rest, as he has bigger fish to fry.
Back at the party Jenny watches the news, stunned, when Brit asks her why she doesn’t do anything. Jenny says she doesn’t need to, that someone else will take care of it, but Brit tells her she’s wrong, and she points out that none of the other heroes would exist if it wasn’t for Jenny, and says Tremorton needs more than a hero, it needs her. Jenny realizes she’s right, and takes off. As she leaves Tiff asks Brit if she meant what she said, but Brit says she obviously didn’t, and only said it because she didn’t want to die.
Atop Jeanne-Phillipe’s Sheldon finds 10 watching the battle, and the two begin to fight.
The other heroes mop up the rest of the XJ-bots and start to turn to join him when Armagedroid rises from the ground, forcing them to battle him.
Eventually 10 defeats Sheldon, tearing open the Silver Shell armor and preparing to convert him herself when Jenny arrives, blasting her away. She tells Sheldon he was right, and that she’s sorry she didn’t listen, and is about to kiss him when 10 returns and their fight begins. The fight carries them all over town, and eventually Jenny moves it to space, where 10 and Jenny hurl asteroids at each other. Back on the ground the others defeat Armagedroid(in large part due to G-Force’s help) and turn their attention skyward, waiting to see the fallout of the battle between Jenny and 10. The battle initially appears a stalemate, but in a last desperate gambit Jenny thinks back to her first adventure, lassoing 10 and hurling her into the atmosphere. The two trade blows all the way to the ground, and end up crashing down in the middle of downtown. The people of Tremorton gather around the crater where they hit, desperate to see the outcome, and when the dust clears they see Jenny standing over a severely damaged 10. The robot makes one last desperate attempt to reach Jenny before deactivating, her drones falling with her. The people of Tremorton cheer, and Jenny smiles up at her friends, knowing this is where they all belong.
Later a news broadcast talks about Jenny’s heroics, before shifting attention to the heroism of the Mogg family, who developed a system to safely reverse conversion, saving thousands, including Dr. Wakeman. In the Mars home Azure tells him to turn it off, as they still have to find a college. She starts to talk about Tremorton Tech, which has both a good Journalism and Criminal Justice program when Rain enters, asking Azure if she can borrow her brother, as they have a lot of catching up to do, to which Champ smiles, suggesting they all take a trip to Mezmers.
At Tremorton Hospital Wakeman gives her humiliated thanks to the Mogg family, when the woman from the memorial ceremony enters, dressed in a Skyway uniform. She tells Phineas and Isaac that the Patrol would like them to help develop technology to protect against threats like 10 in the future. Isaac points out the failure of his last attempt at such a project, but the woman just gives Colette a sidelong glance and says the ZX project was an accident that couldn’t have been foreseen, and one that can be forgiven.
Elsewhere Jenny once again apologizes to Sheldon, but he tells her not to worry, as she made the right decision in the end. He then mentions their moment atop Jeanne-Phillipe’s. Jenny goes to kiss him again, but an alarm sounds, interrupting them. Sheldon sighs, telling her to go, and she gives him a peck on the cheek. Across town the others react to the alarm but over the comm-link Jenny tells them not to worry, grinning as she flies over, glad to have finally figured out her life as a teenage robot.
