"Uh-! C-citizen!?" She stutters.
"Just come on!"
The stranger drags her through the gorgeous landscape of the hidden city.
"What IS this place!?" Tristy asks the guard through the alarms.

"I don't have time to take you to the shelter near your home on if it's on the other side of town," The guard attempted to explain, "Just wait here until the fighting is over, okay?" The guard pulled Tristy to a large, thick door that looked like it could tank a heavy missile. The door slid shut as people murmured among themselves.
____
Outside, the fight continued. Jakob, Jenny and Lou forced to constantly back each other up and push each other out of the way of incoming artillery.
"Dammit, what's taking so long!?" Lou yelled, pulling out a beam saber and cleaving through a trio of mechs that got too close.
"Augh, we can't do this much longer!" Jenny said, as one of her cannons was blasted off. She quickly replaced it with a new one, but she was starting to run out of spares.

Alarm bells rang. Jakob had expected the fighting to start later- if at all. Fortunately, he had secured a solid foothold on a nearby mountaintop, quite a ways away.
“Providing fire support,” Jakob drawled into the COMM channel. He didn’t specify that he was sniping in the event that anyone unwanted was able to listen in on the old Heroes channel. However, after the first two shots, even an idiot would’ve picked up a pattern.
Each shot was a flash, a blade of blazing green light materializing in the air. The flash cut through two mecha, and an instant later, both mecha found that they had holes boring through hull and internal mechanics alike. The second shot sent one more to the ocean, without a torso.
“Prioritize and fire at will,” Jakob informed the mech as he hopped out. “I’ll spot.”
//AYE-AYE.
Jakob stepped a couple steps away from the mech and crossed his arms. His visors flicked between different frequencies and types to catch any and all sorts of shapes and figures that happened to be flying within the killzone. He did not speak as the Stylus Mech continued to send mech after mech into the ocean.
“One’s targeting us,” Jakob informed, “Missile out, up and left.”
The missile was vaporized with a shot, as was the mech that had launched it.
//FIVE KILLS CONFIRMED.
“I’ll worry when we hit 20,” Jakob replied as he continued spotting for the sniping mech.

"Hey, I haven't seen you before," Someone next to Tristy said, though his tone was friendly. When she turned to look at him, she found that he was a cyborg. In fact the crowd that surrounded her was equal parts robot and human. "You're from uptown, aren't you?" ___
Despite Jakob's best efforts, the assault kept coming. Suddenly, he noticed a distinct sort of interference on his HUD, and it was getting stronger.
"Jakob, look out!" Jenny called, a black mist hovering menacingly behind him, with black tentacles reaching out towards him.
"What the smeg is that!?" Lou said, shooting his heat beam at the tentacles. Though they were vaporized, more tentacles sprouted from the shadowy fog. Lou looked to his monitor when he was being hailed by one of the mechs.
"Come with us if you want to live!" He said, as the mechs flew at top speed back to the fortress.

Tristy looks shocked at the cyborg's question. "Uhhhhh..."
The borg tilted his head as if unsure about her answer. Tristy closes her eyes and grunts, and looks out to across the crowd. "I'm not from here at all," Tristy finally answers, "I'm from Haven, a city in old New York."
She looks back down to the cyborg, "All my friends are...sort of. Not all, but.. Recently, they are--"
Then it hit her. Her friends are out there, fighting these strangely welcoming strangers. She grabs the stranger by the shirt and shakes him back and forth, "I gotta get hack out there! I need to help my friends! They're under attack by a bunch of guys in giant robot suits, which are-- ..." Now she's back to looking shocked. "Where... Where am I...?" She asks.

Silently, Jakob stepped away, and the Stylus mech disengaged from sniper duty. With the extendo-arms, the mech grabbed Jakob and jumped away from the mountain.
//A BIO-WEAPON?
Jakob swung himself around and loaded himself into the cockpit once more. The plasma beam glowed once more, and a plasma lance slammed through tentacle and fog alike. Regardless of effectiveness, the mech fired its boosters to create more and more distance.
“Come with us if you want to live.” Came a voice on an unencrypted channel. A friendly? With a quick scan, Jakob determined the source was the very people they had been fighting.
“There’s always a choice,” Jakob muttered to himself as he prepped for Blink. His target vector: low orbit. He was not dumb enough to fall for what seemed likely to be an obvious trap.
With the flash of the blue orb, the android was hundreds of miles above the planet surface. He had gone straight up from his perspective. The distance allowed him some time to think.
The town with the custom turrets had been attacked, and judging by the damage dealt to the mechs responsible, they were the ones who had attacked… Did they kidnap the people because of that shadow beast? If so, why did they kill people off? Why did they leave the elder to die? Or, alternatively, they had simply found the wrong target, and this was a huge mistake.
Jakob couldn’t confirm any of this unless he got intel on the interior of the target base.
//BLINK CHARGE AT 50%.
“Let’s continue to listen in,” Jakob replied as he began scanning frequencies at an incredible rate.

Lou continued shooting at the tentacles, some growing back with noticeable improvements like eyes and teeth.
"Oh for the love of..." Lou activated his comm-link with Tristy, "Tristy, what's taking so long? We need to get out of here NOW!"
___
"Huh? You're gonna have to speak up, I can't understand you over the chatter!" The cyborg boy said, raising his voice. Tristy's ears started ringing, though not from the magnified volume of the cyborg next to her.
"Tristy, what's taking so long? We need to get out of here NOW!" Lou echoed in Tristy's head. "We're getting te--" Lou's connection was interrupted by static.
___
One of the tentacles managed to get a hold on the Stylus Mech's leg, though it quickly retracted after a brief moment of pause. The fog receded, seemingly blown away by the wind and leaving no trace of whatever had attacked Jakob.
"What the hell is going on, here?" Lou tried to get in contact with Tristy again, "Tristy, the fight's over, what's going on in there?"
___
Tristy could hear him loud and clear on the other side, as the huge vault-like door opened followed with an announcement through large speakers
"The attackers have been driven off, we apologize for the inconvenience."

Tristy wanders and follows the crowd dispersing across the town. She's out in the clearing where the nature reserve is kept hidden from the rest of the world, her eyes sparkling at a scene she's never seen before with her true eyes. She's seen hints of something like this on the internet some twenty years ago before the asteroid, but this...Seeing it for real is astonishing.
"Tristy? Tristy, do you copy!?" She hears in comms device.
She snaps out of her pondering and responds. "O-oh, yeah! I'm fine! Just- a bit of a hiccup happened. All good in this neighborhood!"
Another citizen approaches her with a confused face, "Excuse me, ma'am? May I ask who you're talking to?"
Tristy perks and silences her device for a moment, "Nothing!" She snaps, "I was just, on a call with a friend, making sure I was okay in the vault."
"...call...?"
She gulps, and tightens up, "Hey! Why are you asking, anyway!? It's none of the business!"
The guy slumps over and walks away shamefully. Tristy lightly reaches out and mumbles under her teeth, "Sorry..."
She shakes her head and opens up her comms once again, "Sorry, another hiccup. How's it lookin' out there? You guys okay? I heard panicking!"

Jakob grimaced as he scanned from low orbit. The tentacle that would have grabbed at the Stylus mech would have been sliced by point-defence beams that defended the mech within a spherical “field” in the place of more traditional hard-light shielding. “What is the situation inside?” He asked when he set his channel output to the same frequency as Lou’s, “Are the civilians safe?”
He hadn’t gotten a scan on the creature that had attacked, but he continued to scan at the last-known location, searching for any usable clues on what it was.

Jakob's efforts to scan were fruitless. It's as if he hallucinated what had happened, despite knowing that such a thing was impossible. Perhaps it was supernatural or metaphysical.
"Well, we've been freaking the smeg out because we were getting overwhelmed by the numbers," Lou responded to Tristy, "Something scared 'em off, though. I hope you took so long because you've been fighting guards the whole time." Lou deadpanned.

"N-no, that's not how it went at all," Tristy says, sounding concerned through the radio, "The guards HELPED me. Escorted me to a bomb shelter when they found out they were under attack..."
She looks back out to the gorgeous city, "There's... People, down here... It looks like paradise... An entire safe-Haven!"
A smile spreads wide from cheek to cheek. "I need to meet up with you guys! Outside! We need to talk about this place, it's-it's beautiful! Almost perfect, for a place hiding from a wasteland!"

"That's a load of bull!" Lou yelled, "You saw what these bastards did to Rosa village, there's something else going on and it isn't good."
"Tell us where to shoot," Rey added angrily, "We'll set the whole place ablaze if we have to."

"Wait, WAIT!" She shouts, drawing the attention of a few passerby's. She takes a deep breath and shoos them away.
Tristy then focuses back to her call: "Its fine if you don't believe me. Just- don't do anything rash just yet. I'm in the base, er-city, that's all that's really important right now."
"So what are you going to do?" Jenny asks through her comm.
"I'm... Going to do some maybe, maybe not- risky things. I'm going to..." She gets into a whisper: "I'll stay here in their little haven and find out as much as I can about why these guys are attacking us. I'll keep you guys updated while I'm doing that."
"And what about us?" Jenny then asks again.
"That... I don't know. Just, hold off from burning the place down until I find out their motivation. Find out why these guys look so solid on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside."

"Rrrhhh..." Rey groaned, she hated having to wait. "Do you think you can sneak me or Jakob in there? I'm not waiting out here just for the okay."
"I dunno," Lou scratched his chin, "If something's too good to be true, it usually is. These people are living on slave labor, it looks like, but is that the whole story?"

“We were attacked by an ethereal being. I’ll keep my distance until we gather more intel.” Jakob reported through the channel. “If it’s a paradise, why did they put the effort to attack, rather than try to approach under a peace banner of some sort?”
