"No," Blair said, frowning, "Why?"

"Oh? That's unfortunate," Jericho said, "Because controlling a Lone Star is exactly like controlling a Jaeger. The neural interface will allow you to move the mech as if it was your own body, which means you only have to learn two things in order to utilize it's full potential."
Jericho gestured to the beam emitters on the Lone Star's arm.
"First is how to use in-built weapons," He pointed to the folded-up wings on the mech's back, "And second is to learn how to use the boosters."

"Alright, just tell me how," Blair said, "We don't exactly have a lot of time, so either help me learn fast or this isn't going to happen."

"There are certain hand gestures that activate and fire the different weapons," Jericho began, as the Lone Star sealed up around Blair. "But first let's get to the shooting range where you won't blow up anything valuable."
Jericho escorted her to an open range near the rear of the HQ, where numerous soldiers both meta and human were practicing their marksmanship. Some soldiers and Lone Stars seemed to be testing new weapons.
Jericho lead Blair to an empty row, where a block of cement awaited her bombardment.
"First is the heat beam. You can switch to it by pressing your ring finger to you palm, clench you fist to fire" Jericho pointed to the target, "Try to destroy that cement block."

Blair nodded, sighing heavily before lifting her arm, pressing her ring finger to her palm and clenching her fist, hoping that her actions didn't have disastrous consequences.

Red, pulsating beam shot out from Blair's arm and made contact with the cement block, making it explode into dozens of melting chunks to Jericho's applause.
"Excellent, most new users miss it at that range. Now for the freeze rays," Jericho pointed to the back-mounted cannons, "You have to touch your middle finger to your palm. Firing is the same but it's mounted to your back so the only way to aim is to move your entire torso. The crosshairs on your Heads-up display should help."
As Jericho said this he was working on a console next to the firing range they were using, bringing up another concrete block.

Neo Berlin Islands,
It's the first time Marie came to this place. Such a huge inside, with lots of mech soldiers, couple with few human ones. They're all wearing the black identical black armors. Is it hot inside, since the girl didn't see only a single soldier takes off his armor. But back to the topic, Marie is now following Koith for mission briefing, she must concentrates on her mission, recently.
Head into the section where heading to the Armory and the R&D, Koith says:
-Kane said he'd got some guns for me to test! You head into the R&D and see what could you help our gizmo pals!
-Oui!-Marie nodded-I won't let you down!
Then, they'd split up.
...
Reichmacht Armory,
Koith meets Kane who's waiting for him.
-You said we'd got a new weapon. What's it?
Smirked, Kane takes out a newly designed assault rifle, saying:
-Combat Universal Rifle - Model 73! Our engineers had found the way to combine both the laser and projectile ammunition, so we can switch into both modes when in case! 7.76m ammo. Reduced to zero recoil. Anti EMP coating. Titanium construction. Perfect for the future firearms!
-So did you ever sell it to the outside?-Koith smirks.
-Nein, bruder! We'd got our own secrets, yet the humans aren't ready to touch these guns!
-Huh,-KM-08 sighed.

Blair nodded, sighing again and contorting her body until she was in what appeared to be the right position before pressing her middle finger to her palm and clenching her fist.

The block of cement was instantly covered in dry ice. Jericho jogged down to where Blair's last inanimate victim lay, grabbing a smaller piece and going back to Blair.
"The thing with the G-Force freeze ray is that the laser itself won't destroy your target. It will, however..." Jericho chucked the concrete nugget at the frozen block, which burst open like a bubble made of rock on contact.
"...soften them up." Jericho returned his focus to Blair. "Which means you can't rely on it to capture enemies, it can only immobilize them at this scale."
"The Light Ray-Gun is slightly harder to use, and outright dangerous to test. Nevertheless, we do have the means to help pilots' skills with them," Jericho informed, "But before we get to that, you will need to know how to boost in case things go wrong. Follow me."
Blair was lead to an empty runway that lead into a long but shallow pool, barren of all but a crane.
"The flight and boost systems are both the most importand and hardest to learn asset of the Lone Star," Jericho began, "because this time I couldn't link it to any hand gestures without making it too convoluted to use. I'm sorry to say, but if you want to fly with the Lone Star, you have to BELIEVE you can fly."

Blair nodded, but her heart sank a little bit. She believed she was capable of many thing, but flight wasn't one of them. Still, she tried to think about the metallic body around her, about the boosters on it, about the fact that other pilots had managed to get it off of the ground easily, and likely maneuvered it with expert precision. She tried to think about the fact that it was the mech, not her, that was going to be doing the flying. She tried to imagine all of that, and then she tried to tell herself that if she took off now she could fly. With all that in mind she made her first attempt to leave the ground.

The boosters activated, making the mech skate along the runway until it reached the end. At that point, the boosters held it in the air for only two seconds before it fell into the shallow water. The Lone Star was environmentally sealed, so Blair emerged completely unharmed when the mech was fished out with the crane.

Blair frowned as the mech was lowered to the ground, humiliated at having come so close only to literally fall on her face.
"Alright," She said, "That could have gone better."

Reichmacht Armory,
At the target practice, Koith is now aiming the latest CUR-73. Looks into the virtrual target simulated as an enemy, the soldier's never let his trigger rests, but his shots are circling around the torso, with nearly half of them from the throat to the head. Finished the magazine, the counter above Koith's head shows the report, with 99 percent of accuracy in 50 shots. Changing into laser mode, Koith aims again into the target and fire. The shots pierced through that body, which could be seen easily. When the test finished, Koith had to say about this weapon:
-I'd seen your engineers had made a perfect weapon, Kane!
-My pleasure!-Kane nodded.
Then, Koith's comm sounded:
-Koith!-It's Marie's voice-I'd found the way improving the space of our Vertigo cruisers without damaging the durability. We could send more men to this battle!
-Then how much?-Koith asks.
-Twelve thousands!-The girl answers.
-Gut!-KM-08 smiles-The more we have, the more chance we will win this battle!

"Perhaps," Jericho said, "But it usually goes much worse. You showed the focus and will to fly, but you lack the drive to get off the ground."

"Right," Blair said, more to herself than Jericho, "Drive."
Once again she thought about the boosters, about the powerful rockets that would allow her to tear through the air, about the raw strength that she was in command of. Then she thought about what she needed that strength for. She thought about her brother, about the relationship she had painstakingly rebuilt with him, about how she would give anything to protect that relationship, even fight an army alone. She thought about her sister, the girl she'd failed, the girl she hoped would someday wake up so that she could correct her mistake, so that she could finally make good on her promise to protect her. She thought about her friends in the Patrol, and how they needed her to be at her best if they were to have any chance of surviving. She thought about all of these things, and then she thought about tearing through the sky, propelled through the air by nothing but her need to protect the one's she loved. Then she took a step and attempted to leave the ground once more.
