Jakob took off his hat. "An organization that considers it's jurisdiction extends to foreign worlds must be understandable." He said as he tossed his hat onto a piece of rebar that stuck out of the water by a few feet, "Otherwise, you are an illegal invader, and I must insist that you either respect Earth protocol, or leave immediately."
//SCAN COMPLETE - STEALTH CAPABILITIES ANALYSIS: 100% - COMBAT ANALYSIS: 100% - READY TO KILL IN EVENT OF ESCALATION.
The words crossed his heads-up display. The scanner had been running ever since they met. It took a while, but it was finally done. Jakob was officially prepared for anything this stranger would throw at him in the event of a combat scenario. She wouldn't be able to know that he was prepared, however.
His right hand submerged into the void, a rather large section of his arm sank under the purple mass as well. "You have twenty seconds to comply."

"Well, considering that the primary protector of this planet is one of ours, then I wouldn't say this is a 'foreign world' nor would I say that I'm an 'Illegal invader.' No, I'd much rather say otherwise. I'd much rather say 'Guardian.'" I holster both pistols, but in the process unstrap one knife.

This stranger's unwillingness to part with extremely important information like "The primary protector" or "Whatever in the cosmos a Guardian is". Jakob made a note to recall the recordings he always makes in order to file a complaint to this undisciplined soldier's laughable performance in the line of duty. Regardless, the new information has bought time before a potential escalation, and the arm emerged from the void once more.
"Then explain your position, your organization. Explain this timeframe. What has happened within the past twenty Earth years?" He guessed at twenty years, accounting for how long his Ultima Mech had to be inert for power to completely run out, and an extra five years to be generous. "You do not need to disclose top-secret information, just common knowledge. I will not tolerate vague cryptic nonsense."

"It's been a lot longer than twenty years. Much longer." I stop walking and turn to face him. "And I, for that matter, am a Guardian. 'Peacekeepers' is what Earth has defined us before, though we do much more."

"I did not ask for how long I've been gone; Not even I know that." Jakob's metallic voice reverberated across the water. This person is classified as a peacekeeper. Lack of discipline aside, she was an ally- an annoying ally, but an ally nonetheless. "I specifically asked what has happened to Earth in the past twenty-"
Two blips pinged on Jakob's motion tracker. Judging by the speed, they were probably being cautious. Jakob turned his head towards a building to his left. Behind said building are two individuals. "We're not alone," Jakob noted as he lowered himself.

I load and raise a pistol. "Well, in twenty years or so, all I know is that Earth was rendered dry, then was flooded." I look around at the rubble poking out of the knee deep waters. "Take some cover. They could be hostile."

Well... I guess that's about as much intel as I'm gonna get from this sorry excuse of a soldier, Jakob thought as he stepped closer to the motion pings.
"They could, or they could be investigating the noise you caused," Jakob jabbed matter-of-factly. "Either way, protocol must be followed."
"We mean you no harm. Come on out," he called towards where he detected the motion.

Ayame and Skyler had been quite caught up in listening to the drama of these two strangers, hiding behind what remained of a pillar. For Skyler the entire conversation was practically impossible to follow, but Ayame thought she had something of an idea of what was going on and it was, to say the least, interesting. On the one hand there was a man who seemed to have some understanding of Earth and its culture but no concept of recent history, and on the other was a Guardian who, to be blunt, seemed a bit trigger happy. Which, all things considered, made her all too uncomfortable when she realized that she and her sister had been discovered. The moment Jakob called to her she panicked, and without thinking turned the corner with her hands up, a sheepish expression on her face.
Her sister sighed at the sight, and especially at her sister's lack of caution. Ayame was smart, but she was far, far too trusting, which was why Skyler kept her hand on the hilt of her sword. It wouldn't exactly do much, she was, quite literally, bringing a knife to a gunfight, but it was better than nothing, and if things went South she'd be glad she had it.
"It's alright" Ayame called to Jakob ahead of her, "It's alright, we don't want any trouble, we just heard all the noise and came to see what was happening."
As she watched her sister Skyler became increasingly frustrated with her. They needed to be more careful than this, and yet here was her sister, making herself an increasingly easy target, walking right into the open. So now, like her sister, she had to trust that the other two in the room wouldn't hurt them.

I turn towards the newcomer. "Now of the other of you would come out, I may put the gun away."

As the figure stepped out, Jakob found them vaguely... familiar. He turned his head slightly to the Guardian, and shook his head softly before returning his attention to the newcomer. "I'm glad some Earth life has survived," Jakob approached. "I'm Jakob, previously of the NCC."

"I'm Ayame," Ayame said, walking towards Jakob, hand outstretched, "Ayame Mars, the one hiding out and being suspicious is my sister, Skyler."
As Ayame spoke Skyler stepped out, walking toward her. She took her hand off the hilt of her sword but didn't let it stray too far, and she kept her eyes fixed on the so-called guardian.
"So," She said, trying to keep her tone level, "Does someone want to let us know what happened?"

"Off-planet scavengers stealing metal. I took care of them."

Mars... Jakob knew the name well. He was about to speak when the Guardian told them about the scavengers.
It was true that they were stealing the metal... but stealing from whom? Tremorton is utterly destroyed, and the very fact that there's at least one of them standing in the waist-high water was a miracle in and of itself. Jakob's protocols, which were made to mesh smoothly with those of Earth law enforcement, had a particularly set-in-stone set of rules when it came to a situation of the apocalyptic variety: "Life takes priority over ownership."
"The situation was handled poorly, but what's past is past. I cannot report to your superiors at this point in time," Jakob added. He then turned to Skylar and Ayame. "Are you related to one Champ Mars?"

As soon as Jakob spoke Skyler forgot all of her misgivings about the situation, completely floored by suddenly hearing her father's name.
"Do you know him?" She asked hurriedly.
For a moment there was simply an awkward silence, than Ayame stepped in to answer Jakob's question.
"He's our dad," she explained, "But we haven't seen him for a few years now, you wouldn't happen to have any information on him, would you?"

"He is a friend," Jakob replied, "Although I have not seen him since before I went into stasis. According to this Guardian, I have been under for over two Earth decades. Unfortunate, I am of less help in this regard."
