"I don't know anything about him either, apologies."

Ayame frowned, disappointed.
"That's too bad," she said, "Well, if you do hear anything about him let us know."
She looked back at her sister, who shrugged.
"Well, I guess we'll be getting out of your hair now," she said, "I'm sure you don't want a couple of kids getting int he way of...what is it you're doing, exactly, if you don't mind me asking?"

"My protocol, and those of other organizations, from the NCC to Skyway Patrol, is clear. In the event of an apocalypse: In the event of reclamation, life and knowledge take priority over basic materials. Arrest looters, but do not kill them." Jakob's explanation hid his secondary objective to obtain a power source very well. He would have asked for the help of the Mars sisters, but the Guardian was still around. While it did nothing to remotely sour his opinion on their organization, Jakob did not trust this particular Guardian.

"I'm here to make sure this area isn't sucked dry of resources, and also to not deal with Grey Goo" I holster my pistol.

"Oh....kay then," Ayame said, awkwardly trying to think of something to say about what either of these strangers had just told her, "So, like I said, I guess we'll be off."
She turned then to Skyler, who was still eyeing the other two suspiciously, and started to head for the nearest exit.

"Hold up. Why exactly are you two out here?"

"We were, uh..." Ayame said, trying and failing to come up with a good lie.
Skyler rolled her eyes as she watched, knowing it was hopeless. Ayame had always been a terrible liar.
"Trying to see if we could find out more about our dad," she said, fixing eyes with the Guardian, "He used to live around here, we figured it wouldn't hurt to look around, see if there was any sign of him, as silly as that sounds."
She knew that these strangers really probably didn't care that, in reality, they were scavenging just like the lizards, but it was better to play it safe. Besides, this Guardian still didn't have her trust.

"I think most 'signs' would be waterlogged or burnt. Or buried, unfortunately." I lock eyes with her. Though she can't see my eyes, they still deliver a piercing glare back into her.

"If there is anything at all, It will be found," Jakob vowed, "I need to establish contact with old allies anyway. If my old map data is still any good," He produced one of his computer's old hard drives from the void, "I'll be able to recall the exact location of his old base of operations, and we can begin a search there."
Jakob approached the sisters. "That is, if you require my help."

Ayame smiled, surprised at Jakob's kindness.
"Thanks," she said, "I don't know if we really 'require' your help, but we'd certainly appreciate it."

"Then so it will be. Oversee earthen beings find a lost hero." I cast a glance across the waters.

"I have the location," Jakob announced soon after he slipped the hard drive somewhere under his helmet. "Let's go."
The old data marked the Mars abode somewhere in the same neighbourhood as the old XJ-9, or at least a neighbourhood within walking distance. He did not have an exact fix, since his more precise location data required a hacked GPS satellite. Since Earth is distinctly lacking in that department, he had to rely on old-fashioned navigational techniques. Much like the rest of Tremorton, the buildings within the neighbourhood were horribly dilapidated. Hardly any of them seemed recognizable. On the plus side, the area was higher, so the water was at ankle depth.
He did not know the exact coordinates of the place, but there was a process to finding it: Searching every house.

"If I remember correctly," Ayame said, "Dad used to live in an apartment complex with his sister, but he moved out after we were born, and lived with our mom a few doors down from the Moggs."
She smiled awkwardly, realizing that there was a very good chance that she was just babbling nonsense.
"I don't know if that means anything to you," she added to Jakob, "I just figure it might help narrow down the search."

"Mogg... I remember the name. Rival to Wakeman, "took inspiration" from Wakeman." Jakob eyed the street and the location of the remnants of the nearby buildings. "Nothing looks the same, except for the layout. The apartment is right there."
Jakob pointed at... well, if it was anywhere above four floors, it had flattened to two floors, with rubble and the like stacked into hill, tumbled smooth by deep-water currents. All covered in dead and dying coral. Jakob approached the apartment building, and both hands vanished into the void. He stuck one hand into a nearby rubble pile, and the other hand began spitting debris. Using the void like a vacuum cleaner, Jakob absorbed stone and dead material and ejected it elsewhere. If he picked up anything recoverable, he'd simply keep it within the void to examine later.
If there was anything from the second floor and above in the apartment building, the rubble was the most likely place it could be. Between the stone and the pressure-treated materials, there was a small chance that something could have survived. Of course, being thorough was an arduous and time-consuming process. "If the structure is trustworthy, perhaps you can search the remaining interior as well?"

Ayame frowned as she looked at the structure, unconvinced that anything could be salvaged from this mess. Still, it was nice, on some level, to have some idea of where her father had come from, even if it was a ruin now.
"I think it'd be best if we just stuck to examining the rubble for now," she said, "I'm not sure how well this thing will hold up if we..."
As she spoke she heard the sound of tumbling rocks, and turned to see her sister working her way up the remnants of the structure to the second floor.
"Come on," her sister shouted back, "What's the use of worrying, who knows what we could find in there!?"
